Don’t you love that feeling of coming home after a long day? Everyone deserves to know that comfort and relief.
Sadly, many children don’t have a place to call home this holiday season. More than 400,000 American kids in foster care have suffered parental abuse, neglect or abandonment. Without reliable, loving care, these children face severe poverty, the threat of gang violence, steep high school dropout rates and limited career options.
We’re excited to announce our brand new partnership with SOS Children’s Villages USA for our 6Tag #HomecomingChallenge campaign!
At SixDegrees.org, we want people to feel empowered to raise money and awareness for the issues that they care about. That’s why we created 6Tag: a platform for you to tag 6 friends to join a social cause you believe in. We want you to make a movement!
SOS Children’s Villages USA offers a successful alternative to foster care. Its four U.S. villages focus on the importance of stability in children’s lives. Children are raised within an SOS family with their biological siblings whenever possible. SOS also prepares teens for independence in a transitional home providing them with life skills, vocational training and educational opportunities.
The SOS model works: 100% of SOS youth in the U.S. graduate from high school (compared to less than 50% of other foster care children), and SOS alumni are six times more likely to graduate from college than youth in traditional foster care.
We challenge you to join the campaign. Create a short video (less than 20 seconds) of your routine when you come home, post the video to Facebook, then tag 6 of your friends to do the same, using the hashtag #HomecomingChallenge.
All children should know what it feels like to open the door and settle in to their own safe space. We hope you take the #HomecomingChallenge and encourage 6 of your friends to spread the word: every child deserves a home!
